Are the current laws of employment enough to stop racial and age discrimination in employment in Canada?

Aren't employers - consumers of services provided by the employees. And Consumers have the right to choose. After all it is their own business - they hire whoever they like.

What is the solution for this paradox The right to choose versus employment equity ?

I study law in Italy , and i tell you put a big question, really difficult to answer... laws must erase iniquities, but in Italy too, very often the problem is that law says one thing, and employers do behave how they want, they ignore many laws...

I often hear 鈥淐anada has lesser discrimination than others鈥? I think it is absolutely self-claimed slogans. Probably this word was said by Canadians who have no idea what the life like living in different culture.

As an immigrant living in Canada for 10 years, I do think Canada has not recognized that you are unrecognized racist regarding employment. Compare to US, Canada has fewer opportunities to establish International business relationship with foreign business. In the US, there are so many Asian or European business invested in many different sectors and they have their own brunches in the US. Immigrants with good languages and education have more chance to utilize their skill.

It seems like employment discrimination in Canada has been extremely slow improvement and Canada has wasted utilizing SO MANY talented immigrants for decades. Canada does not initiate fast enough to deal with foreign trained professionals. About 10 years ago, there were no Gov鈥檛 programs or employment training for immigrants. For example, Russian Dentists need enormous money and time to be a dentist in Canada. Also 鈥渟ystematic racism鈥?is stuck around, which is hiring procedures or entrance requirements may have the effect of excluding various racial groups particularly from higher positions. Do you know how many company executive with color or accent in Canada?

I was so disappointed when I studied Human Resource at one of the well known University in Canada about 8 years ago. Employment equity was covered only few pages of a thick book. That鈥檚 the reason why decent people with accent are never invented for job interview.

Discrimination is caused by discriminators, and there is nothing you can do. Society can鈥檛 change over night but you can change. Go somewhere else where you can use your skill effectively. Train your self well and be repared for the next chance.
