How creative are you?

Hello,

I live in a city with two colleges and a very large high school. Furthermore there is a large community of "artsy/organic" people living here as well. The city has a lot of charm and even more potential. Ten years ago it was a dump and now little boutique shops and businesses are popping up along with an influx of upper middle class citizens. Business in the area is thriving.

Sadly I have noticed that there are no recreation or personalized services in town. Specifically catering to the target crowds I have mentioned above.

My question is: As a High school or College student in a relatively urban setting, what kind of business/service would you like to have available to you? There are enough bars, coffee shops, restaraunts, billiards and pizza joints in the area so I would like to target something else. Something....outside the box but affordable addicting and of course FUN!!

Any Ideas?

Game playing places are real popular with the "yuppie" crowd. My brother-in-law likes to go to an "indoor golfing" place where you can practice your putting or swing using electronic equipment and a semi-virtual reality type thing. They live in Irvine, CA.

Also the big game places like Dave & Busters are popular. These are indoor restaurant and video game arcades. But the games vary from indoor laser tag to video skiing and racing, to standard video games. I see more adults there than I do kids though.

Anything that features live music or up and coming local bands can make money too. Just have to do it right. Unfortunately a lot of good coffee houses have gone under because the bands outshone the business. People came to hear the music but didn't buy any food! But there's another great restaurant chain in California called the Rendevous. They serve dinner, and offer live music from locals. So it's the best of both worlds - and very popular with the upwardly mobile set.

That's all I can think of. Sorry I wasn't more original.

An art theater featuring independent films. Films could be submitted by the colleges etc, or just have art films...could have theme nights. Or have a small theater that is also a restaurant or bar so it's dinner and or drinks and a show in one. Could have a discussion after to talk about the film.

An indoor bizarre where they can sell their arts and crafts with live local music and other live performers like jugglers etc.

You could maybe have a pottery place where people can buy premade bowls, pots, etc and then paint it themselves. It would be an especially fun outting for families with little children. People come and have fun without having to clean up the mess(you would do that). Your inventory and rent would be your biggest expense.

I know a lot of older kids are trying HUKA bars.

A place where you sell a huge amount of candy! and have a monkey sell it to you!
