Why do people buy puppy mill dogs?

With all the news and verified information about puppy mills and the mistreatment of dogs and puppies why do people still buy puppies from Mall pet shops etc. knowing that to buy a puppy from these places only perpetuates the puppy mill business? Puppies purchased from a breeder are usually cheaper, healthier and much better socialized.

Because it's pretty hard (impossible) to get a pet store to let you put a pic of the puppies' actual breeding conditions (mill/ BYB) next to that cute little face! Too bad it can't be like cigarrettes & alcohol, where they HAVE to post something like, "Buying this puppy endorses the operation of breeding dogs in chicken cages!"

Unfortunately people look into the eyes of these sweet little puppies at stores & fall in love. Some think they are "saving" these puppies that started out with a hrad life. What they don't realize is they are actually asservating the situation because once a puppy sells at these stores they place an order & "replenish" their supply from PUPPY MILLS which keeps them in business. People need to look at the "hard life" these pups started out with & realize that as unfortunate as it may be the long term effects they might have is higher for health conditions, behavior issues & most of all the heartache of falling in love & having to put a pup down because of these problems. Pople need to do research & use common sense.

This is basically like asking, "With all of the information and news about STDs and how easy it is to get pregnant, why are teens still having unprotected sex?"

Basically the answers are, A) they haven't heard the information, B) they know but don't care because they don't fully understand the impact of what they're doing, or C) they're complete idiots and think "Oh well this pet shop wouldn't do that, these puppies look healthy and happy," or some other misguided opinion. You can never inform all the people, but you can do your best and hope to reach the majority.

Their kids see puppies in the window of the Mall Store and rag the dickens out of the parents who are too weak-minded to say NO.

Great dogs can be obtaned for very little cost from a dog-breed Rescue association. For example: the English Springer Spaniel Rescue Association has wonderful dogs that are already housebroken and often are well trained but the owner can no longer keep the dog for a variety of reasons and was smart enough to turn the dog over to a rescue organization to find it a better home. PASS THE WORD ALONG TO DOG SEEKERS.

I. Ignorance- many people are still clueless

2. Denial- they hear all the news about puppy mills, but think that it still can't be true. If the puppy is that cute then I can't come from horrible conditions.

3. Don't want to wait- They want a puppy of a certain breed and they want it today. They don't want to wait for a healthy well breed puppy from good breeder. Or they don't want to wait for weeks or longer looking for the right dog in a shelter or rescue.

4. Want it cheap- Don't want to spend the extra money for a dog from a good breeder. They don't realize that a few hundred extra today, could save you thousands vet bills in the weeks or years to come.

5. Refuse to consider adopting from a shelter. Some people actually think that shelter dogs, are sick, and mean dogs. They don't realize that most shelter dogs are amazingly sweet and in good health.

because a lot of people either choose not to listen or they don't know. a lot of it is due to uneducated people buying on impulse not thinking about the possibility dog could be from a puppymill. and when you try to educate people their ignorance shows because they dont want to listen. my sister is currently looking for a "puggle" puppy for her fiance and she has been looking at pet stores and breeders yet our local shelter currently has a pug/beagle mix in there just waiting to be adopted. but like i said most of it is due to impulse and ignorance

I have to admit i bought my dogs from puppy-mills...i had no clue about puppy mills and had already bought them...

i am now more informed and knowledgeable about it

luckily my dogs are extremely healthy!

I dont think that they know what a puppy mill is, or when they buy from pet stores they are supporting them. It is sad.

People are uneducated about where the dogs in the pet stores come from.

some people want a dog as soon as they see it and do not want to search in other places

most likely they feel sorry for them

i don't think they know the puppies from a puppy mill
