On my first day on my new job . the boss said he is not willing to train me

i was hired to be a customer care agent/admin asst but i discovered i was to do all the graphics designs for the company as well, so i needed to know photo shop and corel draw. i was so confused . he is not willing to train. what should i do i feel so sad. all he wants me to do is to design forms and business cards.

Don't be sad. CorelDraw and Photoshop both have fairly decent help files and built-in tutorials. You might also be able to find some online. You can learn both programs on your own, but it won't be the easiest task in the world. It would be helpful if you had hands-on experience (even from home use) with a real image editor like Paint Shop Pro (my favorite since I can't afford Photoshop). The best way to learn imaging programs is to play with them. Draw your own pictures, edit photos, etc.
My policy: There is no such thing as software (and other computer junk) that you can't learn on your own.

I'm an admin asst who wears a great many hats: receptionist, graphic designer, programmer, sales clerk, PC technician, help desk agent, dispatcher, and permit clerk. When I started working here I did not know anything about the programming language my boss used to create the in-house software. He didn't train me. He let me use his books so I could teach myself. Along the way I also purchased my own books. Anyway after a month I was proficient enough where he didn't have to review every single upgrade before it was released company wide. I've been working here 3 years and I'm still learning the language.
My point: Learning a programming language is far more difficult than learning Photoshop or Corel Draw. If a programming language can be learned without a teacher and classes so can Photoshop and Corel Draw.

Your boss is pretty stupid for hiring someone to do a job in which they have no training or expertise. He also falsely advertised the requirements of the position.

You can either figure out how to learn the programs with help from others on your own time or look for another job that suits you better.

If you really want to find out what the heck happened, ask for a job description for your position. If it doesn't match up what you had in your resume and discussed in your interview, ask him why. It sounds like your boss is inexperienced or just plain dopey.

I assume the software is available there at work for you to use. See if it came with any instruction or tutorial, or do research online and see what you can learn. At the least look online (or your local bookstore) for books on that software (make sure you get the book for the version your company is using). I've done that before at various jobs. Bought a book and taught myself how to use the software. If you can find a class in the use of it locally, take that class. You may be able to find a local collecte class or adult education course.

You may be able to expense the book to the company, but even if not it'll likely be an investment that will pay off for you in the skill you learn. Not only will it help you to do what you need in your current job, but it'll be another skill/software you can put on your resume' as having experience with, for your next job.

Not kewl that your boss won't train you and apparently didn't make you aware before you were hired that you'd be doing a job you have no experience in. Take this opportunity and show him you can do it! Don't let this be a stumbling block.

Good luck!

Photoshop & Corel aren't software you teach yourself. I would go to the person who hired you and ask them about the mixup in expectations. Maybe they can either arrange training or get you off the hook. If you can get training, I'd suggest that route: it would be great to acquire skills in these advanced software applications. Good luck!

I suggest you tell him this is fine but you need time to learn the editing programs. Photoshop isn't hard to learn once you know the basics. Theres also www.tutcast.com which teaches about Photoshop and LOADS of videos on YouTube to learn tricks and how to do things. I usually try to watch the YouTube channel IceFlowStudios.

Its not really fair you weren't informed of this and it is now expected of you but I think you could learn the programs. :)

SINK OR SWIM!!! Give it a try...he isn't training you so its not like you will be a let down or anything. Play around with the new software your using and I'm sure you will have it down in a week. Build your confidence back up, learn something new, and blow them all away!

that is BS if he isnt willing to train you then why did he hire you?
I would go train myself and study it up and then prove him wrong.
Have a friend help with the programs and study at home or whatever.
Don't feel sad ok!

if he is not ready to train you then it is the golden opportunity to train your BOSS and you will definitely sit in his chair. Why not possible try it

he won't train you because he does not know him self.
