In Malaysia, would u buy chocolate or desserts? is it successful to open a shop selling either one or both?

i'm doing a business plan for opening either a chocolate or dessert shop. This has to be depend on the interests of Malaysians. I'm afraid that my interest doesn't meet the markets' taste and interest. Could Malaysian help me to solve this problems. Thanks.

I have outlets at some of the complexs,and i can see our people here will be more interested in desserts. Look around and you will see..... desserts outlets out numbers the chocolate 's, yet are doing fine !

Chocolate as desserts after main meal? Nah. Most Malaysians prefer fruits and local desserts after a heavy 'makan'.

What about making chocolates as one of the unique ingredients for a local dessert? That will definitely sell. For example special chocolate toppings on an ABC (Air Batu Campur/ Shaved Ice with mixed fruits/ nuts). Oh a chocolate flavoured 'Cendol'. Or maybe 'Kuih Chocolate'. All these will definitely get the attention of Malaysians who loves sweet desserts. Hope that helps.

I remembered when I was studying in Sydney, Me and my friends always head down to Max Brenner http://www.maxbrenner.com/ in Double Bay to have chocolate drinks and desserts there. It was phenomenal and I personally think that if your concept in mind is something like that it will definitely work in Malaysia. Almost everyone loves chocolate and we had yet to have any shop that focuses on chocolate as much as Max had. Malaysians like to try new things and just by surveying the crowd in Starbucks and Coffee Bean, it will tell you that we can afford these overpriced coffees. Marketing plays and important role to these outlets and I think you should set aside some money to do that part properly in order to gain long term prospective customers as the foundation is the most important to any new business. I would not go for desserts only store as we have too many nice varieties of desert stores made by locals or from those Hong Kong franchises also not forgetting our cheap Malay 鈥榢uih鈥?dessert) found by the roadside. Therefore, my votes go to chocolate based shop and send me an email if u really do open up I鈥檒l frequent there.

Malaysians are more interested to eat roti canai, murtabak, etc and drink teh tarik. Chocolate/dessert might be considered as something fancy.
