Does or has anyone owned a donut shop before? I would like to get feedback about this business. Thanks?

I am interested in owning my own business. My family was in the restaurant business for many years and we no longer own the restaurant, but I have the determination to start back up again. This time I am interested in owing a donut/coffee shop. I am clueless to this whole entire endeavor and would like some feedback from anyone knowing about this business. I see this possibly becoming a great opportunity for me and my family. I know it will be hard work, but I am not afraid of hard work.

First thing - do some research for that particular niche. Find out how many of that type of business is in the area (20 sq miles), and then talk to the owners as to how their businesses have been doing for the past three years.

Then you need to look at the traffic flow around the location you are looking at. Is there easily accessible parking, ease of entry and exit, is there a large traffic flow early in the morning and during the close of business peak, two times most of your business will come.

Is there a large number of office buildings in the area that you could service? As in providing coffee and pastry for them big meetings and such - and who are your competitors doing the same?

Do you have a large school nearby - a group you can tap for midday traffic.
