Working or starting a business in Ljubljana, Slovenia?

Can anyone give me info on a non-EU citizen (I'm Canadian) who would like to work or open a business in Ljubljana? I am an experienced bartender/bar manager, and would like to move there ASAP. I would take a bar job to start, and then look for opening my own place- is it expensive/ difficult to open maybe a small pub in Ljubljana? How about Licenses for liquor and business? Or is it easier to open a shop selling something? Could I start for 15-20 thousand Euros?
'Hvala' to any who can help me!

yo- anybody in Ljubljana see a guitar player every night this summer singing bob marley? It was me...

ZDRAVO!!! I'm moving there next month! I'll be bartending at a place on the Ljubljanica!

There are not many Slovenians on Y!Answers... Come to think of it, I haven`t seen any!
Slovenia is very proud of being in the EU and all that, so I suppose that if you take a look at some web-sites, information should be available. Here, I took a look at some of them. Hope they help!

WHY ARE THEY OPENING A BAR, THEIR WELFARE?

i would go there and ask some of the business owners what they had to do to get started.

Indrajeet you freak, Slovenia has higher life standard than most western countries!!! Wherever you are from , you obviously don't get much international coverage do you - which tells me a lot about your country!

Sorry - had to get emotions out of the way first - no one is taking a hit on a fellow ex Yugoslavian republic - no matter how stuck up they were once they were a part of Yugo!lol

Now, congradulations on moving to Ljubljana, it is sooo beautiful and so clean and so safe. So cozy too, not as polluted and huge as a lot of Eastern European cities have become.

You would need to speak Slovenian to be able to start to work there - I hope you speak it - otherwise it will probably be pretty difficult. Your budged sounds fine, if you are planning on renting a caffee or a bar which already exitst - buying one or setting up a good enterior for it - will take much more than that.

I would advise you to start with renting one and try to save enough money to buy one. Just don't forget that you will need someone local on board to get the guests in. What I have figured here is that - a lot of places have great enterior design, good music and disent prices, but are still pretty empty. So unless you have someone to set it up for you that knows a lot of people and has been around town longer, it will be a slower start.

Wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart, I am sure you will love the life in Ljubljana!

Ok. I'm from Ljubljana and it's a nice city but it's a hard time for bars because we just excepted a law that you can't smoke inside a bar and that's why bars aren't so full. The people are complaining about that and it's almost winter and it will become even harder for them.
