How do report an insurance agent to their employer? While shopping for insurance, this 'New Agent'...? |
While shopping for insurance, this 'new agent' who wants to become a career seller for Farmers insurance was refered to me. When I looked the guy up his credentials seem sketchy at best (Business Degree from Almeda University, and on-line site from the carribean island of Nevis?) Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but is there a way to check on this guy's legitimacy? Is he just someone running a scam? Does anybody have a direct way to contact Farmers' HR group and warn/question them? Farmers will generally hire anyone who can fog a mirror with their warm breath and has no criminal background. Farmers at one point would only allow agent web sites if they were created and maintained by Farmers. This odd site may be his way of slipping under the corporate compliance department's watchful eye. You could check with your states insurance board to see if he is licensed. You can google this on line, most states allow you check right there. Insurance agents do not have to have a college degree so the fact that he seems to graduate from a bogus college doesn't matter since it is not a requirement anyway. You could also call Farmers insurance to see if he is listed with them as an agent. You can call the Farmers 800 number and they should be able to give you information about the agent. Generally speaking the agent's are checked out pretty hard by farmer's before they are allowed into the organization. Provided this is not a scam (i.e. fake website, not really a Farmer's agent) then he is probably OK. Find their 800 number and call them. You might try calling another Farmer's agent and asking for a phone number to their contact for Farmer's. If it is the same geographic area, you're likely to get the person this suspicious person would also work with at Farmer's He's not an employee of Farmers - he's a contracted agent. Farmer's HR isn't going to be able to help you. But if you go to their website, and do a "find agents near you" search, he should pop up. |
