I want to start my own business.. How? |
Hi to you all. First know your product. The best thing you can do is to get a job in someone elses shop selling the products you eventually intend to deal with in order to get some experience and knowledge of the product and it's market. Depending on where you are, I would contact your local 'Business Links'. They are run by UK Trade and Investment / the Department of Trade and Industry. They have a lot of practical information online from starting up through to managing the business. In addition you will probably get an advisor and pointers to any grants etc available. I would recommend doing a combination of both, but first you need to get a good accountant, who doesn't charge the earth, and a good bank account - a good accountant again can help you organise this and help with the start-up arrangements (forms, notifying the right people, costs) - I would recommend you email steve@quartaaccountancy.co.uk - really cheap and excellent service, or look at his website at www.quartaaccountancy.co.uk HI, hi, Hi www.businesslink.gov.uk I am starting my own bussiness too and I am taking a program on line from a very recognized university in Mexico. Tec de Monterrey !! The program is for 6 months and you get a lot of help from different specialist... first of all you need to think whether you prefer interacting with people or not - if you open an online shop and work from home with little contact from customers who'll all be buying online then it could prove quite lonely. however saying that, it could give you loads more freedom as you could work the hours of the day you want to, and take a day off with no notice if need be - but if you have a shop you'll have to have regular opening hours and stick to them! 1st thing you need to be aware of is that you will need to register with the inland revenue that you are intending or actually trading as self employed. to do this you need to complete form CWF1 which can be downloaded from www.hmrc.gov.uk (best to put it in the search bar) this form will need to be submitted within 3 months of the end of the month in which you started trading, so if you started say 10 jan 07 the form needs to be submitted byend of april 07 otheriwse they will fine you 拢100. they will then send you ur tax reference number and some other stuff which is worth you while to read. you will also need to arrange to pay class 2 national insurance which is about 拢2.10 a week. Hi, Business link is definitely the place to start. Then look for any othe gov agencies in yoru area - as their are many in many different guises. They should help you with your business plan - though the arm offer training for those leaving. |
