Should stores be responsible if their shopping carts damage your car?

If a store's unattended shopping cart rolls in the parking lot and slams into your car, should the store be responsible. After all these businesses (eg Publix, Kroger, Walmart) do have the option of buying shopping carts that have a breaking system, or do not roll when unattended.

No matter what the stores do, there will always be shoppers who don't return their carts to the proper cart corall. Some stores have an employee who continuously retrieves carts to keep the parking lot clear but many stores don't. I think all stores should have a cart retriever because it is very annoying to get a ding or scratch because of unattended carts. It's also very annoying to see a good parking stall not in use cuz it's full of carts.

No they provide cart returns which would prevent them from doing this. It is not their responsibility that some people are lazy and just leave them anywhere in the parking lot.

No. In fact, most stores even post signs in their parking lots to that effect (as a way of protecting themselves from lawsuits). As the first responder indicated, the stores cannot be responsible for the actions of your fellow shoppers (many of whom do not return their carts to the proper place).
