Ideas for small business in small college town?

I am interested in starting a business of some sort. My interests vary so much I am willing to try about anything. I live in a rural area of Pennsylvania and the towns main focus is the college. Anyone have good ideas for a small business that may target college age people? The town is also only about 5 minutes off interstate 80. I prefer a low start up cost. I'd be willing to pay more if it was for a franchise of some sort. I looked into Starbucks, but the corporation does not sell franchises, they personally own all Starbucks. We have McD's, BK, Wendy's, Taco Bell, KFC, Long John Silver's, A & W, so we have a lot of major food shops in town. Any ideas would be appreciated. I already have some ideas, but would like to hear input from others.

If you like the coffee idea, then it doesn't have to be Starbucks. I know plenty of trendy coffee-related businesses here in Austin, TX that make a real nice profit/living.

Nail salons, tanning salons are also popular here. There are merchandising stores that carry the school stuff (jerseys, etc.).

I'm involved with an Internet marking enterprise that can be worked ANYWHERE there are people. Sounds like you're a forward thinker, one with an aggressive spirit. If this is true read on and contact me if it sounds interesting.

It's an Internet marketing business, a business that has a system that allows you to build it, develop it, then when it's up and running it allows you to exit and with the extra time you'll have, you'll be able to build, develop and run another. . .it's never ending, IF you're up to it. It's not difficult, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to do. It鈥檚 as simple as this: Shop on-line (do your regular shopping 鈥?toothpaste, toilet paper, deodorant, etc) and get paid for it, then get others to do the same thing and get paid for that, too. It can be developed as a referral business or you can directly market the products. There is a huge variety of products to market, which gives you the advantage of choosing just a few products or even just one product that you're interested in and really get behind it. The affiliated corporation takes care of inventory, shipping, billing/payment procedures, bookkeeping, business reports, etc. Ultimately, you're getting paid for redirecting your shopping and referring others to do the same. It's fun, it's easy, and it is incredibly profitable. There's a saying: We鈥檙e making friends, making money, and making a difference. If you'd like more information, contact me at hoozdaboss@aol.com

Try a music or bookstore, or a coffee shop. Anything that would interest college students. I go to college in a small town, and I know that if there were a decent music or bookstore here, it would get business.

Mary Kay would be an awesome business to start especially near a college town. Not sure if this is what you're looking for but the start up costs are low ($100) plus whatever inventory you choose to carry. There are no territories are quotas and very low risk involved. Starting out you will average $30/hour especially with college girls...make-up is huge! I live in a college town also and it's great business. Once you become a consultant you make 1/2 of everything you sell, you can make commissions if you choose to build a team AND the product is consumable so reorders are huge!! I have been with Mary Kay for over six years and more than replaced my full-time income as a paralegal. I am very shy and definitely not pushy. Email me if you want more info...no obligation :)
