What must one know to go into business for him/her self?

i desire to have my own shop, i want a high end lingerie shop. how does one get started, where do you find your stock? and what must one know? should i get some business education before i launch this?

So many questions... no, you don't need to get an education in business to run a successful business. But you should have some management experience. It helps a lot if you have had a background in that type of decision making. Check your local SBA for the legal info on how to get a business started i.e tax stuff, licensing etc. Check online for suppliers, just google it. You can also contact places like Victoria Secret who may agree to let you buy stock from them at wholesale prices. The internet will be your best bet for finding a supplier. Everything else is straight forward - find a location, get staff, market your business and make some money! You don't need the business education if you feel you are ready. You do need money though. Start scouting trade shows. There is one annually in Las Vegas for the Lingerie Industry. If you have a specialty, research and research and more research on different lines and stores and gather all the info you can on specific vendors. Put ads out for local designers wanting a "break" in the business. I am not sure if you are a "lady" or man, but ladieswholaunch.com is a terrific venue for those ready to launch into business. I am sure there are other organizations like this. Start scouting locations & get rental prices. If your idea is good enough, write up a rough business plan and go see about city small business loans. Good luck!
