If I want to open my own business (pet related)..?

Well my original goal was to go to school and get a degree in Business Management while working for Petsmart (as I am now). I was hoping to move up into management then eventually turn over and open my own, small pet shop. Is this so unrealistic? Any helpful ideas? I know it'd be a lot of work but I feel like it would be worth it in the end... There is nothing else I have found that has interested me as a life-long career. I love animals though (I have 4 chinchillas, 3 rats, 2 snakes, and a 55gal fish tank right now).

Any other animal related careers you know of (no vet stuff, anything other than zoology)? I certainly don't want to stay at Petsmart forever...

you're on the right path definitely go to college also the experience at petsmart is a BIG + especially if you can work your way up to management. theres more in running a successful business than just liking what you do you also need to be able to make a profit to pay your bills and keep your store open.

heres ten jobs relating to pets you can do that i got from http://www.entrepreneur.com
1)Pooper-Scooper Service
2)Pet Photography
3)Pet Clothing and Accessories
4)Pet Sitting
5)Gourmet Pet Treats
6)Dog Obedience Training
7)Dog Walking Service
8)Tropical Fish and Aquarium Rentals-appearently offices with waiting rooms such as doctor and lawyers offices rent tropical fishes
9)Pet Toys
10)Pet Breeder

oh by the way i just thought of something you can be a pet detective haha i just got finished watching ace ventura

I also work at Petsmart in the Petshotel.
I want to open my own doggy daycare, training facility.
That is all that interests me at the time!
Pet shop, sounds fun too!
If that is what really interests you I would say, take business classes from a local community college and learn as much as you can about running a business, and once you think you know enough slowly start it up!

It is just wonderful you love animals! But, my advice is to get that degree in Business Management first. Running a business takes more than a passion for animals. It takes money, and know how. You might consider after school, visiting the nearest small business administration for additional information on starting and maintaining a successful business.
