my home town in Melaka small town in Merlimau. These are a few steps you may want to do first since your in a city I like to call a Tourist Stop.
First research this areas before you invest money into any start up. But living in the main city of Melaka Malaysia does have it's rewards.
1. How many ladies live in the city of Merlimau and surrounding cities within a twenty mile radius.
2. How many of these ladies know and use Avon products. How many sell the product and are possible competitors.
3. What are the requirements for opening a shop. You must be legitiment or else Avon will not touch you with a 10 foot pole.
4. How many male and female tourist and townfolk walk by the area you want to set up shop, take a seven day count. Be sure that you separate the citizens from the tourists. Record what they are wearing you can diverse the store's goods for sale.
5. Do a survey of no less than 100 ladies and they can be friends, relatives and even highschool ladies on what they would do if such a shop where available. Would they shop or not.
6. Ask the businesses around your location about the amount of money they spend per month on utilities such as gas, electricity and water.
7. Design your store placing counters, seats, mirrors where you think it would be of an advantage for increased sales before you set up shop. Cuts down time if you know where you want things.
8. Do not sell just Avon products, because you want to be a sucess in business. So sell side items such as sunglasses, hats, scarfs, (don't laugh) pantyhose because many a tourist ladies have found runs and no where to buy new ones at the spur of the moment. Cameras and film seem to get used up fast add this to your counters.
9. On the internet find out the name and address of the person in charge of overseas sales. Write a detailed letter about your idea of providing the tourists of Malaysia an easy access to cosmetics and personal needs.
10. Pick a program that will help you keep track of your business. PeachTree is good, but I have been working with QuickBooks Pro for 11 years now and like the manner it stores data.
11. Your government may have funds for new businesses, you may want to check into it.
12. Start saving money NOW, because your business will take six months to a year to do enough business to support you.
13. Find out what you need to set yourself up for credit cards. Today many tourists and neighbors use credit and debit instead of cash. Safer and more effective in record keeping.
14. Start the whole venture with a good Business Plan, there are several books on the market, my favorite one is the one I have used to complete Plans for past clients and it is;
Adams Streetwise ISBN: 1-55850-845-7
