Shopping for a new baby-to soon? |
hi every one im 13 weeks pregnant tomorrow i had my scan last week and everything was fine my baby is due the 16th of january, ive started getting in little bits and pieces as i dont want to be rushing around near christmas and whent he sales start i want to get it all out of the way so i can relax and enjoy my pregnancy, but ppl are constantly telling me that its far to soon to start buying things this is my first baby and im really excited about it, do any of u pregnant mum to bes or new mums think im buying things too soon? i dont want to tell ppl to mind there business if they are right I waited till I was gone 5 months, people are superstitious, and scared that bad things may happen if you buy too soon. I'd advise you not to put up a crib until you bring the baby home. Get the daddy to put it up whilst your in hospital. Good luck with the new baby, and all the best. Feel free to get in touch if you need any advice.x I started buying litle bits after my scan at 12 weeks. I have just bought small stuff like cot mobiles and baby gro's. Its just fine! Your past the 12 week mark which means you are alot less likely to miscarry. I totally understand what you mean... it would be good for you to be able to relax towards the end of your pregnancy, you'll appreciate it especially around the holidays. Just tell people its how you want to it. I'm ttc and I know I'll be doing the same thing when I get pregnant. Its not something you get to do very often so enjoy it! And congratulations!! I started going to yard sales this summer looking for baby stuff when I was only about 12 weeks. If you can get the bargains now, then I say go for it. Don't spend too much, though, because you may end up with more than you need. I am excited to find out what I'm having (this Friday) because I will be able to buy for a specific gender. ****************************************... There is a superstition of not buying anything before 12 weeks, as this is the most risky time of your pregnancy and it is seen as bad luck by some to buy things before then. It is only a superstition though - and as you have passed the 12 week stage anyway even if you do believe it there is no problem now. I wouldn't go too mad because it's easy to get carried away and end up with more stuff than you need, but there is nothing wrong with buying things early. I do it all the time with my kids, I've even started buying the odd Xmas presents in the sales already! It's easier and more cost effective than buying everything in a rush at the last minute. Hiya, first off Congratulations and I hope all goes well. I started buying for my first born reall early and everyone told me i was mad!! You're excited so i say buy whatever you want and never mind what others say! I started buying little things like bodysuits and neutral clothes ,they didn't get worn as we had a girl and i wanted her to wear pink so went out after she was born on a shopping spree. I don't think so. My son was due 1/10/07 and I started buying things when I was about 8 weeks. I had already bought the bed stuff and I didn't even know the sex of the baby! I was buying all kinds of things and so was my mother! Buy what you want! Have fun!! you say you are shopping for a new baby. i hear that mothercare.do a good line in new babys of the peg. shop when you feel comfortable, they say the 1st 12 weeks are the danger period, but anything can happen at anytime through out your pregnancy it just means your chances of it happening have been decreased. im 4 months and 3 weeks with my first and me and my partner have just started decoratin the nursery, some people say its too early but if its going to happen then there is nothing you can do to stop it, you may aswell enjoy your pregnancy while you can, and because your really excited i bet you will end up trying for another one after anyway so anything you buy can be kept till next time! There's nothing wrong with buying a few bits now but like someone has already said, pregnancy can seem to go on forever and if you leave it a bit longer to buy the bigger things it will give you something to plan and do later on. If you want to buy things then go ahead. it's an exciting time, especially as it's your first. Ive started getting the most I'mportant things i.e cot, baby bath and some bits and bobs and im only 11 weeks 9 i havent putmy cot up yet its in the box in our back room, so if unthinkable did happen i can always return it)! i might have started to soon, but i get paid monthly so the way i see it is there's only 8 more pay days b4 my baby is due so i want to make sure I'm prepared, and just like you i don't want to be 8 months pregnant and dodging through the Christmas crowd! if your happy with it then whats wrong with getting exited? its your pregnancy after all if you want to start buying things now on you go. dont let people stop you with there mumbo jumbo super stitious comments. i did the same with my last pregnancy but unfortunantly we lost our little boy at 26 weeks. i still have all the stuff i bought for him. im pregnant again now im 20 weeks and il admit iv not bought anything yet. i may start going a bit mad on the shopping ina few weeks. lol hun i started buying stuff about 8 weeks. everyone thought i was insane but everytime i saw some cute boottees or something took over me. i justified myself by saying if anything went wrong then a charity could make use of them instead.... I personally would wait until after the anomaly scan at approx 20 weeks before you buy any major purchases. I was desperate to buy baby clothes so i just bought a few bits and bobs at 12 weeks, then waited until my next scan before i bought anything else. It was also great knowing the sex at 20 weeks too as it meant i could buy a lot more things in the right colour, rather than just boring beige's, creams, whites, yellows, etc. We also started choosing the name around this time too and it helped the pregnancy feel a little more "real". no i started getting just the small stuff at around that many weeks then the bigger stuff later its a exciting time dont listen to them buy things of you want i did. I think lots of women start buying bits in after they get past the 12 week stage. I did with my first two and with this one (due in 6 weeks) I didnt get it all until about a week ago and it was a horrible feeling having left it so late. People are probably saying it incase anything goes wrong, but as horrible as it is to say any woman could wait until the last month thinking "oh its safe to go and get the baby bits now" and then at birth diaster could strike and something could go wrong. Thats my opinion anyway. If you are having fun getting bits and bobs in for the baby then really who are you harming? Goodluck with the rest of the pregnancy! x i don't think it's too soon to be buying stuff, don't listen to those others telling what's right and what's not right. this coming weekend my husband and i are buying our first box of diapers. and I'll be 14 weeks tomorrow. you definitely have the right to tell them to mind there own business. Good luck and congratulations! well im 12 wks and started saturday doing the buying 4 the same reason as you hope all goes well xxxxx |
