To Mechanics-- what would u charge for this job?

I noticed there are a lot of mechanics and retired mechanics on this site so I have a question.

How much would YOU (personally) charge to replace a head gasket and water pump on a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero? 2.4 Quad 4

I know that different mechanics charge different rates and it would vary from state to state. But I just need a ballpark figure from a mechanic himself. Im not sure if the quotes Ive gotten are higher because of the community here or if I'm just expecting too much for too little. I wouldnt want to insult anyone with a lowerrate expectation but Im not made out of money and I'm on a budget. But forget that and tell me your quote.

So to certified Mechanics (with or without shops) how much would u charge each? Head gasket replacement and water pump?? Also indicate if you have your own business shop or operate on the side like in your garage.


If you're not certified but know your stuff please answer and indicate that ure not certified.

i have my own mobile mechanic business and i would do it the head gasket for 400 and the pump for 80 but thats labor i dont buy parts thats up to my customers seeing that they can get the parts for the same price i can from any parts store with a warranty thats not even ballpark for most places its more like 700-900 for the head gasket and maybe 200-300 for the pump
