I'm accompanying a friend who is going to Mumbai for a short business trip.?

What can i do there as I am totally lost...Shopping ..eating..sightseeing..what are not to be missed ? Is it safe for a girl to move around alone during the day ?

Faith, I live in Mumbai. This place is safe for women of all origins, local or foreign born. It is also pretty warm, weather wise. You can go shopping for clothes, jewels, handicrafts etc- quite a few places like Linking Road, Bandra, Colaba, Crawford Market etc. You will find good food, and you must try the malvani seafood joints like Mahesh Lunch Home, Excelsea, Gajalee..... and Parsi cuisine at Fort. Food is quite inexpensive and of delightful variety. Always drink bottled water.
For sightseeing, you must visit the Elephanta Caves ( includes a 45 mins boat trip!), Kanheri Caves, Juhu Beach ( simply for the street food if not the sunset), Prince of wales Museum, .... You will find the Mumbai Darshan buses which offer day long sight-seeing. And yes it is safe to move around in Mumbai, alone. Happy journey and welcome!

There's lots of shopping! See if you can go to Bollywood! I've been twice to India, I would not recommend going anywhere alone. You're a white female in a very foreign country where women are not as respected. Don't risk it.
But it's a beautiful place once you get used to your surroundings. I have to admit I had culture shock for the first week I was there and all I wanted to do was go home, but once I got comfortable I loved it, and my second trip went by way too fast. Enjoy it while you're there!

well Mumbai is a lively place to b may it b during daytime or may it b at nite, well lots & lots of places for sightseeing obviously u r stay wud decide where all to go..... besides that if u love junkies definetly try BhajiPav here especially at fort near Siddharth college. also have malls for shopping & fashion street where u can get tee's & quiet good cargo pants if u r luck. Beware... also don't go alone to places during nite, not always risky but still some places avoid goin
