Books or websites onVictorian life?

Can anyone recomend any books or websites on Vicotrian life, shopping, business, London, and food? Fiction or non-fiction?

The Internet has masses of information on Victorian life plus millions of photographs too, some as early as the 1830s/1840s. I've got a copy of one by Fox Talbot showing Nelson's column still under consruction in the 1840s - a very early snap.

As I live in London, I have selected London Victorian sites. However, if you live elsewhere, you could try putting the name of your town in the Google slot preceted by the word 'victorian' followed by your town name. You'll find out a lot about where you live over 100 years ago.

When I was a child growing up in the 1940s there were still lots of Victorians around, including some of my own family members, no all gone, but still only in their 60s then.

A look at the Victorians and how they viewed their royalty, their achievements and visions, their culture and their outlook on the rest of the world. Interesting pictures and drawing on every page illustrate nicely the text.

"Pax Britannica: Vol. 2, Pax Britannica - The Climax of an Empire" - James Morris, Folio Press, London 1992
An excellent overview of the British Empire at its height around 1900. This is the second in a three volume series by the author. Highly recommended.

"Winston S. Churchill - The Last Lion, Vol 1, Visions of Glory 1874-1932" - William Manchester, Little, Brown & Co. 1983
One of my favorites. A favorable view of WSC's early life. Good overview of Victorian culture that shows it's influence on him. Churchill as soldier, newspaper correspondent, writer, statesman. Highly recommended.

my favorite subject, ive got loads of books on it. the best one would be, making the metropolis. Have a look on bibliophile.com (i think) loads of reduced books in well laid out catagories. the history section is good. Free to join.
