Why does the USA want the Olympics here?

What a logistics nightmare and HUGE security threat it will be to have the Olympics in LA or Chicago. No one benefits except big business. The USA will pay Billions to host an event that will be extremely dangerous. With our current national debt, WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?
Is there a way to stop this from happening?

You've described it accurately. The public pays for the security while private business makes all the money. This is an age old way to get rich in America, as the Robber Barrons established in days of yore. Socialize the costs and privatize the profits.

But one need not look that far back for examples of this. The war in Iraq is funded by the public while the defense industry reaps the profits. The AMEX Defense Industry index has tripled since the beginning of the Iraq war and is the perfect example of why Eisenhower warned of the dangers of the "military industrial complex."

I live in Chicago and am helping out with the Chicago 2016 organization to win the bid. I've loved the Olympics my whole life and it would fulfill a lifelong dream if they come to Chicago. I think many people like myself, who have nothing to do with big businesses, would benefit.
