What legal issues are involved with running a fundraiser?

Just wanted input on any legal problems that may result from hosting a funraiser with physical activity involved and ways to limit the risk or protect myself and business. Also how do taxes work when holding a fundraiser when some but not all of the proceeds will be donated to charity? any sources would be great to, thanks!

You better be real clear about disclosing that, hon. I can't imagine the flak and bad press you would get hosting a fundraiser and having the participants find out they financed your trip to Bermuda. There would be hell to pay! Most fundraisers are for non-profits and attract do-gooders.

If you are not a registered non profit business, then you are running your fundraiser for profit, and it will be taxed accordingly.
