Dog for Dinner?

I have to make a business trip to Korea, and am concerned that my hosts might offer me dog for dinner. I would'nt want to offend them by turning this down (and wreck the business deal in the process). If I have to snack-in, are certain dog breeds better or worse than others in this respect?

This is true - by boss went to China once and he asked how they could justify eating dogs. He was told it was OK because they only ate the stupid ones!

Koreans eats dogs but most don't, and the ones that do usually don't have it often.

Ewww...Im sure they will not ask you to eat Dog Meat!! Get real...I know that some places eat that stuff, but Im sure thats the poorer areas. Ewwww Poodle anyone? lol

What you don't know won't hurt you...don't ask. Why not try it? You might like it. I hear Alsatian is good.

I dont eat dog. So I dunno what is good or bad. I advice you to politely hint that you will not consume dog. Make excuses that it's against your religion to break your oath.

If it is a collie just add cheese sauce.

If it is greyhound then jump on a bus.

Bo-shin-tang is the Korean word for dog stew. However, most "regular" Koreans have a hard time cooking this delicacy. Besides, most Koreans know as common sense that foreigners don't like this dish.

If they do offer to take you out to eat bo-shin-tang, you could decline politely, I don't think anyone would take offense. But since you're in a different country, wouldn't it help to have an open mind about things?

rule of thumb is the further out in the sticks you are, the more likely you are to encounter this unique dish. assuming you're american, they have enough common sense in them NOT to serve it to you if it comes up. most likely they will serve you regular traditional Korean dishes instead. but having been duped myself into eating dog meat I'll tell you that it is unique. the texture of it is quite spongy and fragile. be weary, that's all I can say.

ive eaten dog in seoul. wasnt too bad, its openly on sale in the markets i went to. dont know what all the fuss is about. we eat cows, pigs, sheep, chickens etc here. besides theres plenty of quality korean cuisine available its unlikely you'll be offered it. tuck into the galbi. and get some of that good kimchi down ya. bibimbap for breakfast is also the best hangover cure known to man.

Yes, you can eat dog meat in Korea but to be honest you have to go looking for a place that sells it. There is only one breed of of dog that is eaten (I'm not sure which it is though). Most eating establishments don't sell it so I wouldn't worry too much about being taken to a dog restaurant by your host. And as previous answers pointed out, most Koreans have the sense to realise that foreigners probably won't want to eat it. However, if the worst does happen and you do find yourself sitting with dog meat in front of you don't worry about the taste - it's similar to turkey, maybe a bit greasier.
