I applied to a job with a sports team. Is it ok I said "Dear (team name" in my cover letter?

team. Is it ok I said "Dear (team name" in my cover letter?
Im nervous they're going to use that as an excuse not to hire me now........

It just said send it to "host@(team name).com. I don't want any smarmy me-generation business patronization from any of you and if I even smell it, the only job advice you'll have to worry about is taking on another profession: Annoyee.

Im bitter because some of the answers I got annoyed me. They're like "Oh, you should have called them". Why do that?

I know what im doing. There are too many know it alls on this site........

finding new employment can be a very frustrating nerve wracking experience. i can see why you would be worried about making a mistake.

i really wouldn't worry about it. i work in the staffing industry and see hundreds of resumes a day. you would not believe what some people on their resume! tons of people don't follow directions in the application process.

your error was so minor i doubt anyone noticed. good luck with your job search!

You seem bitter.

Why would someone disqualify you over saying "Dear Oakland Raiders" or whatever? It's not like it's offensive or non-politically correct.

Don't panic.

The best format to use for a company or individual whose name you do not know or to more than one is to use simplified block format for your letter. It is keyed at the left margin just like block style, only the salutation and the complimentary close are omitted. You could also us Dear Ladies and Gentlemen as a salutation or in an all male case Dear Gentlemen. My opinion is to use the simplified format as the simplest and most efficient way.

On the other hand, if that tiny mistake gets you cut from their prospect list then I would just chalk it up to a good deal. If they are that anal about something so trivial then they are probably not good with their people skills. Everyone makes mistakes.

Wow, i second the bitter statement.

You should address any business correspondence -
To Whom It May Concern or Dear Sir/Madam -
if you don't know the name of a particular person.

There's nothing wrong with Dear Oakland Raiders sounds except it doesn't sound too professional sorta like a fan letter. Good luck ! :)

I would have called to ask who I should address the cover letter to. If not that, I probably would have written, "To Whom it May Concern." And you smartly, ask "who calls"--people who want to make their cover letter/resume shine above the rest--that's who.

Dear (team name) is no reason to not consider you for a position. If you are going to apply to other organizations, and are unsure of who to address, you can use Dear Hiring Manager or Dear Human Resources. Don't worry about what you did put on your letter, as the content of the letter is far more important than who you addressed it to.

Since you wrote me to call me a b***** for telling you what you didn't want to here the first time you posted this.. You have motivated me to remind you again...

I think it will make you look bad if writing a formal letter is something you would need to do for your position. If you are expected to communicate with the public, handle media, or simply compose a memo directed to the correct department, writing something such as "Dear Detroit Pistons" for anything besides an autograph will make you appear inept.

good luck with the job hunt.

oh, and stop emailing me to call me names because you didn't like it the first time i said it.
