Job and Interview months coming up, but still hopelessly lost and needing help?

I am a political economy major at a decent university with GPA of 3.645. I haven't been performing well in some economics classes and much of my current GPA is due to me getting good grades in language courses. I really want to go into consulting (tax, futures market, etc.), but all my work experience in the past three years of my college life has been related to publications, communications and marketing and journalism. September and October are the months were most big name companies do their recruiting on campus, and I am not sure if I can even get interview offers. I am a poor student with about $12,000 student loan and badly need a well-paying job after school. I have been looking for internships dealing with tax/business consulting for the fall to make up for my lack of work experience. If anyone could advise me on my career preparation, I would really really appreciate it. Any tips, even criticisms are more than welcome. Thank you so much!!!

I meant, I have $120,000 student loan. If I had $12,000 loan, I wouldn't be panicking right now.

The financial market is a mess at the moment. But your work history is something you can sell to any financial institution. They all have PR departments and always in need of marketing skills. Just get in the door and then after a 6 mo period sign up for the in house broker programs. Son in Law is working in the HR dept of one of the big houses and is earning a hefty salary so do not belittle yourself but go for it.

I would echo the comment made by tkahrs12122. With the skills you have already attained you should be able to use your communications and market skills as a launching pad into other areas. This is especially true if you are bi or tri lingual.
