Horse dealer at 14...i feel that this is wrong?

I know a young girl in the town where i live, she's quite adequate with horses and always does quite well in shows.
but about 2 years ago she started buying a lot of horses, and then selling them 3 months later, she said she needed the money for a course she wanted to get into when she turned 16 and i said fine, it's none of my business anyway. but in the past 5 months she has bought and sold 8 or 9 horses, oh all descriptions. when she buys them, she tells me that and i quote "no this horse i'm keeping forever i'm never getting rid of this one" and then within a few weeks to a few months, i give her a call and ask how the horse is and it's gone. She even sold one of her parents welsh cobs while they were away for a few weeks, someone offered her 4000 for it, so she took it, without even consulting her parents, and it was their horse. when they got back they were mad, but she just told them it was for a course, and they said ok. more to come....

she told me how much money she made on all these horses, but she's really bad a maths and she's actually at a loss of 3500 dollars. i told her that and she said you got to win some and lose some, and that she's got a really expensive horse that for sale for 7000 so she'll make her money back...i asked her how much she bought him for and she said 6200...i don't see the profit do you. now i'm 21 so i'm not one of those 13 year old girls complaining about someone at the barn....i feel that these horses are not kept in adequate facilities, are not fed as well as they could be and are treated like commodities rather then pets. she never checks where they're going or the people who buy them, just as long as they have the dollars. i feel her parents have a major role to play in this, but how can i get it across, that i feel this is extremely wrong? I mean a 14 year olf should be having fun at pony club and shows, not wheeling and dealing.

If my kid had sold my horse, I'd be more than a little teed off.

Being 16 she may NOT have a clue about the IRS, that MAY put the fear of God into her. Back in 1970, I was 17 and I ended up that summer buying and selling 3 head of horses. The first one was my now 3 yr old QH gelding, the 2nd one a knee sprung supposedly 17 yr old gelding (I bought him for my best friend for her birthday and she got to keep him for a month, then her mom made her give him back to me.) and finally an 11 yr old paint gelding with navicular. All the time owning a mare in her mid 20's and using her to work at the ranch I was boarding at.

When the owner of the ranch witnessed all this "horsetrading" and felt that it cut into his business (Although it really didn't, mine was REALLY low key.), he threatened to turn me into the IRS, scared the bejeepers outta me! I ended up trading the paint gelding and cash to him for one of HIS horses! ROFLOL

Maybe that will get her to back off on horse sales.

umm... im 16 and i think that tat is wrong. if wat you said about the facilities is unadiquite then you can actually call upon the rspca and tell them about wat she is doing. . .

Unless you are paying the bills, I would respectfully say to mind your own business, period! Are you part of the operation? Are you funding the operation? Hmmmm, again, mind your own business.

maybe she is doing it for the experience of riding alot of different horses. you have to remember that the horses industry is an industry and some people dont get as attracted to animals as you would.

Well, if her course is in business, I would tell her she already has an "A"

After the additional details - I would say if it is a business course - Get her signed up - NOW

how bout she goes on a website where the horses are virtual and dont cost any money! she sounds like shes from the kind of family that is on welfare, but i bet shes not.

You should talk to her parents because they would have stopped her or at least helped her by now if they knew she was lose their money.

look why the hell u in her business get on this hing to ask wuestions not ***** about somthinthats not ur problem

There is more to come as you said and i will be searching for it.
until then so far it seems to me like she's going to perhaps make it in this world ..turning into a business woman already.

but I have a feeling something may be up.. do you think she's hooked on drugs?
I'll wait for the rest of the question

I read the rest of your question and I still think she's heading to be a good business woman.. once into the business side of things some people really don't care about how the horses are.. they just want to sell them to make money.. I see a person just like that in my home town.

You should get in touch with her parents about what she's doing.. perhaps they are persuading her to do so then they will not get into trouble over it.
whatever the case you need to tell them that you are aware of what's going on.
if nothing is done that way, then I would think about reporting her to the Animal Rights.

i think you should check out the horses and their conditions and what their fed and how their looked after etc etc etc.
like go to her place and check everything out.
maybe say your interested in buying a horse??

then if you dont like what you saw TELL SOMEONE.
like her parents, or if its really bad report her to... whoever the hell your supposed to report that kind of thing to in wherever-you-are.

and if all the horses are safe maybe just give her some friendly advice to check where shes selling these horses too and that money's not everything and such??

does she even do any riding??

good luck :)

Where does a 14 year old get the money to buy horses for thousands of dollars? I could see if she was brokering and earning commissions by representing the owners, but this doesn't sound like the case.
Anyway, I'd stay out of it...it really is none of your business what she does unless there truly is neglect or abuse of the horses she's dealing.

Thats kind of strange but horses are a business and if I had the facilities I would buy project horses at the beginning of the summer. I would train it then show it in the spring/summer to sell in the fall. (I'm 15) I have a friend who is 22 and she has been breaking, taining and selling horses since she was 12. From the sounds of it though she is lying to people to get horses and really doesnt know what she is doing. So its only a matter of time before she hits big problems.

My main concern is the same as yours. Are the horses being looked after properly during this wheeling and dealing time? If so then unfortunately no matter how much you disagree with it then there is nothing that can be done. I do agree with you she should be out having fun with her horse, one horse and forget about dealing as most dealers have very bad reputations and shes not doing herself any favours. P.S if i was her mother she would have got a huge bag of whip **** when i got home for selling my horse.

omg that is so wrong! what is wrong with her?
you should speak to her and her parents and tell them your concerns. it is not fair on the horses and she is hardly even making a profit!!!
i wouldnt want her for my vet.

This is a bit odd but I guess theres nothing you can do. She not really doing anything wrong, and she's not harming anyone. Just selling horses. It is very wierd, expecially that she is only 14. Sorry, there is nothing you can do unless you have proof there is animal cruelity involved.
And why would anyone leave their 14 year old at home alone while they are out of town. Sounds like a family on crack to me...

This actually sounds like more of an obsession...like gambling.
I say this since she sold her parent's horse. Kinda like stealing from your family to gamble in Vegas or bet on the ponies/dogs.

For the parents to allow her to buy, sell, and trade is also an issue. You know it's their money that is supporting this habit.

I personally think she needs some intervention. But that's just me.
