To Baptists, but anyone can answer~Why is the Baptist church run like a government or a business??

I went to a Baptist Church and I worked for them, so I was able to see the inner working of the church, and I was sad to find that the church is run like a business, or worse yet, a government. I thought a church was supposed to be run like...well...a church! I didn't think you needed to consult with 15 men to make biblical decisions and stuff like that. And keeping secrets from the congregation...now, shouldn't the congregation be entitled to know A L L of the workings of the church? Because it seems as thought the Church is sinning within itself. I don't know. Please enlighten me.

You don't want one person making all the decisions like a dictatorship, do you? A church is a community thing and the community should be involved in its workings.

Certainly possible. Keep in mind that your church is being run by human beings. As for secrets, you weren't specific and there certainly should be SOME secrets, although the missions and business of the church should be open to the congregation. For example, my family went through some hard economic times and somebody from our church gave us some money through the church anonymously. The person who did that should expect to be able to do so without everyone knowing, and I should be able to expect that it wouldn't be anybody else's business. How the money is spent in the church and its missions should be open to all members, but not necessarily to the public. What you're describing isn't limited to Baptists, since I'm relatively certain other denominations have people running them also, and hopefully they're looking to the Lord for guidance.
