The road to becoming a CEO?

Ive just finishing my degree in Business Admin and am thinking of now going into a career in HR/consulting but will this be an adequate standing to become a CEO in a big firm in the future?

Are all CEO's from finance roles?

The CEO of my company comes from a recruiting background (it's a recruitment company) and does not have a degree.

I have never heard of any evidence which points to CEOs being from finance roles. From what I know, most have a background working in whatever it is that the company does, or else in sales/business development.
