I want start out as a commercial loan officer? |
I'd like to get into the field. I already have a BA in Business I'm wondering if I should do a training class or two before I submit an application for the position. I live in New York state. Start applying at banks and lending institutions. Many loan officers work their way into the job after starting at teller and/or personal banker. To be a loan officer, you'll need to be comfortable with selling. If you're not a person that can handle sales, then a loan officer is the wrong job for you. Before you become a commercial loan officer, isn't it proper that you get at least minimal training in the lending field as a teller, clerk, assistant, secretary or some minor position? BA in Business is only the first stepping stone. Shouldn't you know about collateral, assets to secure the loan , the probability of the lendee repaying and stuff like that? Do you have the experience to read a financial statement and from that determine if a prospective customer is credit worthy? After enough experience you may then have the capabilities of being a loan officer. |
