I feel anxious and I don't like it? |
Hi everyone. I have been working on my CV and cover letter for the past 3 weeks. I have seeked advice from here and from the Uni's career and developments services, had the CVs and application forms amended and checked over and over. Finally, two days ago I submitted 2 application forms/CV to 4 different companies. And today I just submitted another 3. I think I have done my best in all applications, and I wonder how long do you think I will receive a reply? I am really nervous and I feel that if I don't get a reply soon enough, then I might not get it. What do you think? I don't think you've submitted your CV nearly enough. You should have contacted 100 to 200 potential employers to attempt to get your foot in the door somewhere. You might get lucky with only 7 submissions but it's a game of numbers right now. Your current full-time job is to submit CVs in person where ever possible. take your meds...relax You need to keep doing your best. If you do not get any response, then its not a big deal. Possibly there are better things in store for you. Just keep your fingers crossed and try convincing yourself that "whatever happens, it happens for better". Well, speaking from experience, you are going to need to send out a LOT more CVs and letters before you even get a CALL for an interview, let alone a job. I must have sent out at least 50. If there is one place in particular that you want to get hired on at, call them (or all of them) and tell them that you sent your resume in and would like to schedule an interview. (the more proactive you are, the more they like to know you aren't just another piece of paper.) You have done all you can do, it you don鈥檛 get it you just don鈥檛 get it, but if you do then you do. It is now out of your hands; continue as though nothing will come of it because you cannot put your self on hold. You may have to apply to a hundred or more firms before you get even an interview, you may get an offer tomorrow. In any case you only should worry about the things you have control over. I don't know what job you're looking for but from my personal experience (I'm a paralegal), you should send 5-10 resumes a day and not to wait for any responses. It's not productive to send out 2-3 CVs and then sit and wait for 3-4 weeks. Some companies if they are not interesed in you will send you "thank you" letter a month or two later and some won't do even that. So don't waste your time. I think you need to chill. Companies get many CV's and applications and can take a while to look over them. Try to be confident in you ability, and expect a good result. if you don't revise what you've done and learn from it.I'm not sure how long you'll have to wait, companies can take their time and usually do. try to think of no news as good news. believe you can get the post and believe in yourself. good luck in your job hunt, i wish you all the best - you'll do fine!!! And Happy Christmas too. (remember that most companies can be very busy over the festive season so you might wait a bit longer too) stop worrying about it, you are going to drive yourself mad if you carry on like this. Babe if you dont get one of these just keep trying something will turn up eventually. relax, I'm sure you have done well, if you say you tried hard and did your best. |
