What is the best language for internet develop ?

What is the best language to create application that alow simple site interaction/database manipulation over the internet (e.g. emails autorespond , subscriptions , etc ).Also what is the best environment/tool to allow site design
Please consider also the follow features :
-quick development / quick learning
-low cost
-tools avaliable ,etc
-server dependency /server cost
-Where can I get a free demo

Hands-down, PHP and MySQL. The learning curve is incredibly minimal, and you can do virtually anything with it, and nearly EVERY host out there supports it. If you have your own server, it costs NOTHING to run php and mysql (aside from bandwidth costs), and it's language structure is similar to C.

Plus, you can do some local learning on your computer by using ApacheFriends XAMPP. See the links below.

for database interaction ive only ever used ASP, which is not too hard to learn but you need to know some SQL to submit queries to relational databases...

Internet programming comprises of two types of scripting:
1. Browser: the code is written in browser in Javascript or vbscript. You can do form validations, content manipulation etc. using this.
2. server: this code runs on server and you access databases etc.. usign this script. ASP, JSP come under this category.

The best programming language (and definitely the simplest and easiest to learn) is PHP. It is VERY similar to C (almost identical, actually) and has lots of useful functions. It is absolutely free - you can use the PHP Expert Editor with PHPTriad and you'll be up and running in 5 minutes - literally. For PHP documentation, you can always visit the official PHP website (PHP.net) but I prefer more interactive tutorials at w3schools.com (www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp).

Don't overwhelm yourself, take it step by step - and enjoy it!

People are going to hate me for saying this, but you should have a look at the technologies Microsoft has out there now. Your C++ background would port well to C#, and you'd get all of the benefits of using a compiled rather than interpreted language (not the least of which is MUCH easier debuging and a huge library of built in classes in the .NET Framework to take advantage of). Microsoft even gives you a free IDE. All reputable hosting companies support .NET for about the same cost as an open source platform.

I think the question of what is best is completely dependent on the developer. Its like asking "whats the best language to speak"? Best of luck to you and happy coding.

I think for quick development/quick learning you better use ASP but it have big cost for server cost.
For low cost, use PHP.
Or just HTML (very-very low cost), you can get free hosting anywhere
