well actually am interested in Windows apps, but if by learning ASP i can get training on VB.net too then wouldnt it be better if i took ASP.net? Am sorta confused

ASP.net development can be done in VB or in C#.

The .net framework can be used to develop windows applications or web applications. Learning ASP.net with VB would be a way to get your hands dirty in VB when writing the code-behind files. The controls placed on forms will be different, but share some basic concepts.

Web development is based on a disconnected model running through a browser. Windows application development with VB.net is different.

Here are some links to free ASP and .net training (some videos) to give you an idea of each development system and the target platforms.

ASP.Net is a small subset of VB.Net.

ASP.Net is specifically geared toward web development.
The remaining bits of the VB.Net framework is geared toward Windows application development.

So, the question is, do you want to build web apps or Windows apps?

Edit: Developing Windows apps is very different from developing web apps. Learning ASP.Net will give you insight into how VB.Net syntax works, but that's about all the help it will provide for learning how to write Windows apps.
